The  branches of the military during war are, Coast Guard, Air Force, Army,  Marines and the Navy each operate Archives, libraries and historical associations for conducting historical research. Many of these programs were started at the beginning of  World War II.

The Air Force has a historical association in the Washington DC area, and archives at Maxwell Air Force base in Alabama.

The Army Archives, including the “Army Air Corps” are housed at the National Archives in College Park, MD and Washington DC. 

The Coast Guard archives are also part of the National Archives in Washington DC. 

The Navy has it’s historical center at the United States Navy Yard in Washington DC. 

Marine Corps archives have recently moved to Quantico Marine Base.
