If a soldiers record is missing, but we have enough information about what unit the soldier served in , we can search unit records to try and document the soldiers service. There are unit records in facilities across the United States and we have researchers to search all of them. If we find documents in another facility, that document the veterans service, we can obtain certified copies of these documents and return to the National Personnel Records Center to obtain a Certificate of Service so that the veteran or his/her family will have an official and accepted document of service. The cost for this additional service is separate from any order for Records at the NPRC.
